Video Pointers

As I’m very busy at the present time, this is not going to be a full-blown blog post. I would just like to share with our readers some very interesting videos that I’ve come across recently.

Firstly, a fascinating one hour talk talk by Andy Thomson in which he explains some of the powerful psychological mechanisms which make our species naturally susceptible to religious belief: on YouTube or as a Quicktime download.

Secondly, I would like to point to the always-brilliant Charlie Brooker’s new BBC series Newswipe. In this spin-off of Screenwipe, Brooker shows in his characteristically acerbic manner how the mainstream media fail to adequately report and explain what is going in the world around us. Perhaps best of all, one of the programs includes a 5-minute segment by documentary filmmaking genius Adam Curtis. The last episode of the current series will be broadcast the coming Wednesday on BBC 4. The already aired episodes can all be found on YouTube.

  1. Thanks for sharing the Newswipe link. It’s hilarious!

    Although it’s actually quite depressing…
